Vera Wang Spring 2011 collection

So I've always loved Vera Wang's most girls I have fantasised about wearing a beautiful Vera Wang gown on my wedding day! I think it's the ease of femininity that comes from her work and the beauty of the drape and folds of the fabric across the bodies contours that makes her garments so special. The Spring 2011 collection incorporates this again. These are a few of my personal favourites...I wouldn't turn down any of these outfits!!!!

Sale shopping madness!

So i've been working at Next for the sale weekend and it's been hectic to say the least. I started my shift today at 6am and the shop was packed!!! It had been open since 5am! Who are these people who go shopping so early in the morning?!?! I guess it confuses me as I am sooo far from a morning person....

Anyway, I've been working on womenswear and homeware, but primarily menswear. During my shifts today and on christmas eve, I saw a number of lovely products in the sale that I thought I would share with you. Casual elegance....and all in the sale! Bargains!

Karl Lagerfeld's a dreamer too!

Everyone's heard of Karl Lagerfeld's infamous sets to display his latest collection. For the Chanel Spring/Summer 2011 collection, he created a spectacular ornamental garden for his models to promenade around to show off the new garments. The orchestra and setting created a truly magical experience to visualise the clothes in. I love the sophistication of the collection and the use of sheer fabrics to create a more feminine garment. These are a few of my personal highlights....

Paper cut-outs

These fragile pieces of art were created by Cheong-ah Hwang. The paper has been manipulated in such an complex way as to create a 3D-like appearance, presumably through the layering of paper. The art work must have been very time consuming to create and has produced an extraordinarily delicate and admirable outcome. I'm amazed by the way that the artist has been able to mimic a feather-like effect on the bird.

Speedo Challenge

I just found this video on youtube and thought i'd share it with you.
It's about a challenge given to fashion students at 3 universities in the UK to transform the Speedo racer into new innovative garments. The new garments are very cleverly made with hardly any resemblance to the original garment such as the dress and jacket. Very clever!

As plain as black and white?!

I find these pictures by Arman Zhenikeyev absolutely stunning! The use of black and white allows the elegance and grace of the female form. The lighting in these photos is exquisite and cleverly used to catch various aspects of the figure. The shapes and positions used are almost avant-garde showing a unique originality. These pictures are definitely not plain!

Making the most of the snow...

So I woke up and looked outside this morning expecting to see less snow than yesterday, thinking some would have melted by wrong I was! The snow is still blanketing my road! Maybe it'll be a white christmas after all!!!

This inspired me to look at how bad (or good!) the snow is in other areas and I stumbled across these pictures from a few years ago....
I believe they were taken in Russia and they show how someone has created an art-piece out of the melting snow and ice. I thought they were very moving photos and also have something to say about climate change. Definitely making the most of the conditions to create something beautiful!

These are just a few pictures I took back in Leeds a few weeks ago when the snow was particularly bad!
I like the ice covered plant and how the sunlight catches the snow on some pictures.
